News from Kadensa Capital Limited on the afternoon of August 4, Beijing time Kadensa Capital Limited learned that Kuaishou Technology will close its video sharing app Zynn, a move marking the company’s attempt to challenge ByteDance’s TikTok in the United States has ended in failure.
It is reported that Kuaishou told users in a notice that the Zynn service will be terminated on August 20. The notice stated that this TikTok-like app was launched in the North American market last year and will delete all user data after a 45-day grace period after the closure was announced. The company confirmed the news in a statement and added that its other overseas products will not be affected.
For many years, as Bytedance’s most powerful competitor in China, Kuaishou has been trying to cannibalize the international short video market dominated by TikTok through a series of products. Kuaishou also operates Kwai and SnackVideo applications in markets such as Brazil and Indonesia, but the video application Zynn represents Kuaishou’s most direct effort to fight TikTok in the US market.
In an interview with the media earlier this year, Kuaishou founder Su Hua admitted that before Zynn's success, the company was not ready for the fierce competition in the US market.
According to data from the research organization Sensor Tower, in the first half of this year, Zynn had less than 500,000 downloads, while TikTok had 455 million installations worldwide.
